This page sets out how IOI Journal decides what to publish and how we hold ourselves to it. It applies to every member of staff and to every freelance contributor.

Accuracy

We publish what we can support. Factual claims are checked against primary sources where those exist — official documents, published research, company filings, direct statements — rather than against other coverage. Where a figure is disputed or an estimate, we say so and attribute it.

We do not publish claims sourced only to unnamed accounts on social platforms, and we do not report rumours as though the existence of the rumour were itself the news.

Sourcing and attribution

  • Sources are named wherever possible. Anonymity is granted only where there is a genuine risk to the source and where the information cannot be obtained another way.
  • Quotations are reproduced accurately. Where a quote is condensed, the meaning is preserved and the condensation is indicated.
  • Research is linked to the study itself, not to a press release about it, and we describe the study’s limitations where they affect the conclusion.
  • Where we use another outlet’s original reporting, we credit and link to it.

Bylines and expertise

Every article names its author, and every author has a profile page listing their role, their areas of coverage and how to contact them. Authors write within their beats. Where a subject requires specialist knowledge we do not have in-house, we seek external review and say that we have.

Independence and conflicts of interest

Editorial decisions are made by editorial staff. Advertisers and commercial partners have no influence over what we cover or what we conclude, and no advance sight of editorial content.

Contributors must declare any financial interest, employment, or personal relationship that a reasonable reader would want to know about. Where a relevant interest exists and the piece still goes ahead, it is disclosed in the article.

Sponsored and affiliate content

Content that is paid for is labelled. Sponsored articles carry a clear label at the top of the page and are excluded from editorial recommendation modules. Where we use affiliate links, we say so on the page, and the presence of a commission never determines what we recommend.

AI tools

We may use AI tools for research support, transcription and copy editing. We do not publish machine-generated articles under a human byline. Every published piece is written, verified and approved by a named person who is accountable for it.

Health and financial content

Health articles describe published evidence and clinical guidance and are not individual medical advice. Financial articles are general information and are not personalised advice or a recommendation to buy or sell anything. Both carry a standing notice to that effect.

Updates and corrections

Articles are updated when facts change, and the update is dated. Errors of fact are corrected promptly and transparently — see our corrections and complaints policy for how to raise one and what we do about it.
