Netflix has two big winners on their hands for 2022, and while it was always expected that ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 would reign atop the ratings list there has been a shocking development as a new ratings winner has emerged.

Netflix’s Addams Family spinoff show ‘Wednesday’ has topped ‘Stranger Things’ in a Netflix streaming record upset for an English language series. The series stars Jenna Ortega as the titular character in the show that premiered on November 23rd.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wednesday enjoyed the biggest ever opening week for an English language series in Netflix history, overtaking the previous record set by ratings behemoth Stranger Things, and racking up a staggering 341.2 million hours of viewing globally during its opening week, beating the previous 335 million hours set by Stranger Things season 4.

However, despite those numbers, it falls short of the all-time opening week record of 571.76 million hours which was set last year by Squid Games.

Ortega has received praise for her performance, as has Gwendoline Christie, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, and Christina Ricci as well.

Season 2 has yet to be announced but is widely expected.

Inside Out 2

The box office is humming after ‘Inside Out 2’ posted the biggest opening thus far in 2024 pulling in a whopping $62 million on it’s release day across Friday and preview screenings from 4,440 locations, according to Variety.

The new animated film from Pixar Animation Studios is projected to easily surpass the $82.5 million debut earned by “Dune: Part Two” to overtake it as the biggest domestic opening of 2024 where it will also become the first release to notch a nine-figure domestic opening in nearly 11 months, being the first film to do so since last summer’s smash hit ‘Barbie’ opened.

The film will now join the ranks of some of Pixar’s biggest domestic openings ever, such as “Incredibles 2” ($182 million), “Finding Dory” ($135 million), “Toy Story 4” ($120 million) and “Toy Story 3” ($110 million).

The film is also being received with strong reviews and an A grade on Cinema Score, showing that audiences are also raving about the film.

Directed by Kelsey Mann, the new film tells the story of: “The little voices inside Riley’s head know her inside and out—but next summer, everything changes when Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” introduces a new Emotion: Anxiety. According to director Kelsey Mann, the new character promises to stir things up within headquarters. “Anxiety, voiced by Maya Hawke, might be new to the crew, but she’s not really the type to take a back seat,” said Mann. “That makes a lot of sense if you think about it in terms of what goes on inside all our minds.” A trailer, poster and film stills are now available for what promises to be the feel-good (or feel-everything) film of Summer 2024.”

“Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust have been running a successful operation by all accounts. However, when Anxiety shows up, they aren’t sure how to feel.”

‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, the highly-anticipated sequel to 2018’s Black Panther, dominated a rather quiet Thanksgiving weekend box office, a weekend that saw Disney’s ‘Strange World’ flop.

According to Variety,  ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ scored $8.1 million on Thanksgiving day, as well as $18.2 million on Friday, which dwarfed Disney’s latest animated film which garnered $5.2 million, bringing its total box office performance on opening weekend to $11.9 million.

Those numbers are far off projections of a $40 million earning for the film.

However, the success of ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ made it an overall successful weekend for Disney.
